New destinations in Thailand and Cambodia such as Phuket, Ko Samui or Phnom Penh can be directly booked on austrian.com effective immediately
In addition to the codeshare agreement with Bangkok Airways, expansion of cooperation with Thai Airways International (THAI) in Asia
Austrian Airlines and Bangkok Airways signed their first joint codeshare agreement. As a result, new destinations in Thailand and Cambodia can be directly booked via Austrian Airlines, and reached from Vienna via flights to Bangkok: In addition to the well-known vacation destinations of Phuket, Krabi and Ko Samui in the south of Thailand, passengers can fly to Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand and Trat located on the Gulf of Thailand. In Cambodia, the codeshare agreement with Bangkok Airways includes the destinations of Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. Austrian Airlines offers daily nonstop flight service to Bangkok.
In addition to the new partnership with Bangkok Airways, the existing codeshare agreement with the Star Alliance partner Thai Airways International has been expanded to encompass additional frequencies on routes within Thailand. Christian Steyer, responsible Director of Cooperations at Austrian Airlines, says: “We have not only attracted Bangkok Airways as a new partner in the Asian region, but also intensified existing relationships with Thai Airways International. In this way we can offer numerous new and interesting destinations as well as a wider choice of flights to our customers.”
Codesharing:
Codesharing is a process in which two airlines share a scheduled flight. Each of the participating airlines publishes and markets the flight using its own airline designator and flight number i.e. the code. It enables flights which one airline does not operate itself to be offered in its own sales system. The benefit for passengers is that they can book and pay for flights with the airline they are used to, using their native language and currency.
