Traffic results for May 2016: Austrian Airlines Reports Increase in Passenger Volume
May: 3.9 percent more passengers
January – May: 2.5 percent rise in total number of passengers
Austrian Airlines transported more than one million passengers in the month of May 2016. This comprises a rise of 3.9 percent from the previous year. The flight offering in available seat kilometers (ASK) was increased by 2.7 percent to over 2.2 billion. Austrian Airlines sold more than 1.6 billion revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) in May 2016, an increase of 0.8 percent from the prior-year level. Capacity utilization of the flights (passenger load factor) was at an average of 73.9 percent, a slight drop of 1.5 percentage points compared to May 2015. The number of flights in May 2016 rose by 9.1 percent to a total of 12,452 flights. This is mainly due to the expanded bilateral flight traffic between Austria and Germany.
On an accumulated basis, the red-white-red carrier succeeded in increasing passenger volume from January to May 2016: On balance, Austrian Airlines transported more than four million passengers, an increase of 2.5 percent from the prior-year period. The flight offering measured in available seat kilometers (ASK) climbed by 3.7 percent to 9.1 billion. Revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) sold by Austrian Airlines in the first five months of 2016 rose 1.8 percent from the previous year to more than 6.6 billion. Capacity utilization fell slightly by 1.4 percentage points to 72.5 percent.
